Heversham St Peter’s Church of England Primary School
After more than 170 years, St Peter’s School closed at the end of the 2017 Summer term. The changing character of the village means that there were simply not enough local children to sustain it.
Its closure was marked by a series of celebrations of the school and its life. These highlighted the important role it had played in village life, as the community has changed and evolved over the years. The events also highlighted how important the support of the people in the local community had been, as they had helped the school in so many ways over the years.
Times change and Heversham no longer has its own village school. All those involved can however take satisfaction that, as it approached closure, the school was noted for its family-like atmosphere, its happy children and its high academic achievement.
